Doxycycline treats urinary tract infections, intestinal infections, respiratory infections, eye infections, sexually transmitted infections (like gonorrhoea and syphilis), gum infections, diseases (like periodontitis), and others. Besides this, Doxycycline also treats acne-like lesions caused by rosacea. However, it does not treat facial redness caused by rosacea.
Doxycycline being an antibiotic prevents the growth of bacterial cells (the bad ones!) by preventing the formation of the outer protein layer of bacteria (cell wall) responsible for bacteria's growth and multiplication. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, i.e. it acts against various bacteria. It is a bacteriostatic antibiotic, i.e. it stops bacteria growth but does not kill them.

Please do not drink alcohol with Doxycycline as it may increase the unpleasant side effects like drowsiness and dizziness.

In the past few years, the number of patients suffering from bacterial infections has reached unprecedented proportions. The main type of bacterial infection that the patients have suffered is bacterial gonorrhea, which is caused by the bacteriumEscherichia coliorKlebsiellaspp. The bacterium causes the disease calledStaphylococcus aureusand it is usually transmitted to healthy people. In many cases, the treatment for bacterial infections will be ineffective, and it can be cured by antibiotics alone.
In the present study, we will evaluate the effectiveness of a combination of doxycycline, tetracycline, andS. aureusin treating bacterial infections in Thai patients.
This study was carried out in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. The protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Pharmacy of Bangkok University. The patients provided written informed consent prior to enrollment in the study. All participants underwent a medical examination, including a thorough medical history and physical examination. Blood and urine cultures were performed. The patients were given the correct dosages of tetracycline and doxycycline, and the patients were asked to take the prescribed treatment with each dose. In addition, they were given instructions on the use of antibiotics for the treatment of bacterial infections. The patients were randomly divided into two groups (1:1 ratio) according to the dosages of each drug. In the first group, the dosages of tetracycline were taken as 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 mg/d for 10 days, and the dosages of doxycycline were taken as 100, 150, and 200 mg/d for 4, 10, and 20 days, respectively.
